PageRank is Still Important

What is PageRank(PR)? According to wikipedia, PageRank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E). In simple words PageRank determines the importance of a single page or a website.

A few weeks ago, Google updated its PageRank figures. There are websites that increased their PR and there are also those sites that have encountered a decrease in PR. There are many web users who claim that PR is not that important in search engines ranking nowadays. If we can see, there are websites that have decreased their PR but yet remain in a better position in the Search Engine results. But thinking that PR is not that significant was just a misconception. According to Google, "The heart of our software is PageRank™, a system for ranking web pages developed by our founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University. And while we have dozens of engineers working to improve every aspect of Google on a daily basis, PageRank continues to play a central role in many of our web search tools." Google always makes some updates and still making some ways to improve their ranking algorithm. So if you are one of those people who said that PR is no longer important, think again. Read though Google Technology and discover what's true about PageRank and how Google use it to deliver relevant results.
